Like A Knight

(with video below)

Here at the castle of the Templar Knights
I immerse myself in the sacredness of vivid silence
I sit under a pine tree
The smell of oranges strokes my nose
Branches wave softly in the wind above me
While the rain falls down
I meditate and write my poetry

And regardless of the weather,
the birds continue to sing their songs
Regardless of how many battles,
the Templar knights continued
to fight for their cause
And regardless of the rain,
the time, the ocean between us
or whatever,
I continue to love you, to have faith
and stand for my heart

Hurricane

The strong wind is coming
He came from the west
and crossed the ocean
to ashore Portuguese land
And the rain is falling
The branches are bending
All is in motion
The wind wants
and I want you

Be as the hurricane
And blow fiercely,
blow strongly,
blow loudly
your way here to me

True Monarchy

Once there were
a queen and a king
that had their
colourful tiled palace
on a mountain
in the woods
of Sintra

And each day they looked
over the green land,
the sea, the wide sky,
the valley
and all the abundance
of their fairy tale like
kingdom

Though it was
in one another’s eyes
they found
their true monarchy

Dragon

Hear how the ocean rages
It spits its water
on the beach
A dragon rides the waves
and fires words
that thunder
mercilessly
against the cliffs

Oh dragon inside my heart
Roar your fire
Shout your strength
Over the land and
the mountains
And be as wild
and fearless
as the raging sea

Looking Out For You

Clouded is the sky
Like the sea it lost
its colours of deepest blue

All seems so grey now
Where are the rainbows,
the sunflowers,
the brave heroes
of the glorious sea?

Lost feathers on the beach
Oysters in the sand
that keep inside
their precious pearls

Sand rubs my feet
The sound of waves
invades my ears
and thoughts

But look,
on the horizon
ships come in
Fishermen bring
tales and treasures
to the land

And look,
how the seagulls float
Do they know?
Have they seen?

As long as there’s hope
that the sun will shine again
I’ll look out for you

Our Fado Song

Here in the narrow, steep streets of Lisbon
We step into a fado song
And drown in the lake of longing
Our story woven
into the history of this town

A you and a me
A love that reaches overseas
Sailing the stormy waves of destiny
Wine and fish, music, poetry and tears
Melancholy blends with hope
O meu amor do silêncio
Your melodies are echoing
forever in my heart

Reciprocity

In the forest between Cascais and Sintra, Portugal

I breathe out the air
the trees take in for me
I inhale the air
the trees transformed for me

Underneath the ground
a network of roots
connects the trees
The forest breathes
as one with me

Rebirth

The initiation well of Quinta da Regaleira, Sintra

The tower does not reach up into the sky
but descends down into the ground
A spiral staircase leads me
into the underworld of darkness
Inside the womb of mother earth I die
I take off my old self
at the bottom of the dark, moist cave
And then slowly I rise
Rebirth my renewed me
I emerge from the labyrinths of my own depths
Journey towards the daylight
Up into your radiant mystery

Wavy Patterns

Cascais, February 15th

The sea here at my feet
The world perceived in wavy patterns
Things come and go and come
In this carousel of life
My gaze at the horizon
There is only this ocean between us
A sea that divides the land

And I could walk over water
Or ride a winged horse to take me
all the way to the promised land
Or I could just stand my ground here
Firmly with both feet in the sand
And wait the sea to bring me
All that is meant to roll back my way

Lisboa, Queen Of My Heart

The blue sea smells of sardines
The land is scented with saudade
Waves of memories
roll towards me
I dance my way through Alfama
And will write my own history
Sounds of Fado take me with you
To comforting Portuguese ground
Into the heart of faith and fate
What will be will be
with no doubt

Let my tears merge
with the water of the Tagus
Let my soul flame o meu amor
I will be the queen of myself
On the hill in the castle
Ready to receive the king of my heart

Let me discover the truth of a treasure
I will embark the ship of my dreams
Let me raise my glass to good fortune
Let God be with me when I go overseas

Lisboa, city of light
Always have your arms wide open
To allow me to return back home
Though there can be stormy waters
I will never lose track of your shore
