Singing My Man Home

River Tagus, with your strong stream,
that takes the water
from the Atlantic ocean
into Portuguese land,
will you bring my beloved to me
from overseas
Please take his ship gently
As he endured stormy waters
that broke down his old beliefs
But could never damage his pure heart
I will stand here on your bank
as his beacon
My heart song will sing my man home

I Wish

I wish I could tell you all my tales,
live with you the stories
And make the magic flow once again
in this town
‘Cause the buildings are just buildings
My letters are just letters
The night is just the night
And even Lisbon is just Lisbon
If it isn’t touched by your fairy eyes

Eternal Love

(With video below)

Here in Lisbon it’s like time doesn’t exist
And history is now
All what lies between us is erased
All what will happen has already been written
The stars in our eyes once told the story
Nothing to worry, but a lot to smile
As I walk in the streets, I float
in the eternal space of our love

Once It Flows, It Flows

And I walk along the river
Where you should have walked too
Next to me there is the water now
Which I cannot hold, but it flows
The river is like sadness
Where does it start
Where does it end
Once it flows, it flows

The sun burns on my face
Like my heart burns for you
Even the birds don’t fly today,
but they walk
on an empty riverbank
And I find the freedom in my footsteps
My hope in my heart
And once I walk, I walk

Lost Lovers – Prayer To St. Anthony Of Lisbon

St. Anthony, there are two lovers
Who love each other
like nothing else in the world
He is her sun, she is his rose
Though they are wandering
And can’t find their way
back home

Please, St. Athony
Since you are the protector
of the lost and the lovers
Bring them back
to where they belong
and let them find each other
in one another’s arms

Mourning Sky

The sky above Lisbon mourns
It left its bright colours
and pours its heart out
upon the tiled streets
No umbrella gives shelter
as heaven’s teardrops
and its wind of sorrow
break through any shield

Girl By The Castle

Oh girl by the castle
Are your tears falling down again
Your heart too much of a burden
And your fairy dreams don’t let you in
Because your king is not at home?

Oh girl, looking at the clouds,
the hills and the river down there
While wishing for the stars
and a flying horse to ride

Wipe away your tears
and be his queen
Straighten your back
Rise in love
The castle is yours
For your light
is needed in the world

Girl By The River

There is a girl on the riverbank
And she waits for him
Her gaze longs
in the distance
There where the river flows
into the ocean
Far beyond her eyes can reach
But her heart knows where to look

She watches the ships that sail by
And counts time
While her tears drop one by one
into the water
The river carries them away
and brings them to the ocean
Far beyond her eyes can see
But her tears know where to flow

Crescent Moon Lullaby

Oh crescent moon above Lisbon
You rose from the shadows
since you grow
in your full truth more and more

And now you are waxing
and this night when I’ll
be sleeping
and you’ll keep watch
over the land underneath,
will you please bring
my beloved in my dreams

Shimmering Gold

The evening sun
lights up the streets of Lisbon
The tiles of Restauradores
are of shimmering gold
Magic paves the road
into a world
where all is possible,
where creation lies
in every step, in every word
and science is
just a poor belief

In The Courtyard Of The Castle

My dear king, where are you
I drink my glass of wine
in the shades of trees
of the courtyard
protected by the castle walls

And I look out for you
over the town,
the river and the hills
While a summer breeze
blows through my head
and strokes my cheeks

And I could conquer worlds now
and create by my poetry
My sight is so clear
My army so strong
But would it matter
as my glass is half full
And you did not yet appear?

Would it matter
That the flags are raised,
the cannons are loaded,
the table’s set,
and I toast to us
even though
There is only one glass
And there is just me
and the endless horizon
to gaze at?

Yes it matters
that the sun is shining
the king is always expected
And although my glass is empty
My veins are filled
with glowing warmth
As the throne of a king
is in a queen’s heart

White Birds

Tonight white birds fly over Lisbon
to reconcile heaven and earth
and bring peace
between your heart and mine
And while the church bells
of the cathedral ring
The flying messengers
come to sing
That all is safe and well
and forgiven
Since the sky that connects,
has been cleared

Toast To Life

São Jorge Castle, Lisbon

The queen is at her castle
and overlooks the city
that spreads majestically
down by the river,
into the valley
and over the seven hills

Life is good to those
who toast to life

Rocks In The River

There are rocks in the river
That block the water from flowing
The river keeps its tales unrevealed
And I am lost for words

I want to swim in your depths
Get drown in the waters of your heart
Float in your ocean
Your current will lead me
back to my words

My King

Lisbon, February 18th

My king of my heart,
I wait you here on the hill in my castle
Though do not expect wealth
As nothing here
is mine or yours
We do not own
the sun, the moon or the earth
But I promise you,
the one that holds the sword
of truth,
a river of love,
of flowing eternal gold

Shedding Tears

Lisbon, February 18th

When you shed your tears
And let them rain down
I will catch them
Cherish them
These fluid diamonds of your heart
I will make them a river
To flow into the world
It will fertilize the earth
And by the grace of your tears
New flowers will grow

Mouraria Poesia

Lisbon, February 17th

Mouraria,
Ghetto of the Moors
With its steep narrow streets
Baracks between
colourful tiled houses
Cracks in walls
Scars of the earthquake
will not allow to forget

Cradle of fado
Shades of people who
lived here,
who died here
Their voices still heard at night
A resigned echo
during the day
Calmness and passion
rule the hearts
of those
who believe in fate

Laughter and tears
of ordinary men
and women
with shared
ordinary dreams
Just like ours

The Cathedral

Lisbon, February 16th

The Sé adorns the city
And graces its heart
Inside the wisdom of silence
preaches

And touched
by ages of devotion
I build my own cathedral
with words of elegance,
prayers of truth and love
To rise up to heaven
and honor
the poetry of life

And like a crusader
I dedicate myself to
my own divine path
Knowing that
glowing glamour
lies within

Tram 28

Lisbon, February 15th

I glide up and down the hills
trough the narrow alleys
on tram 28
This vehicle of romance
that shakes me into nightly daydreams

And suddenly
I am in a movie in black and white
And my heart starts to beat excitedly
Because – who knows –
At the next stop there is a man waiting for me,
holding a red rose
in his hand

A New Day

Lisbon, February 15th

A light rain shower awakens

the town this morning

A baptism of heaven’s waters

to reassure me I am on the right path

And all is safe and I am blessed

to follow my footsteps into this new day

Dancing City Lights

Lisbon, February 14th

The dark is a comfortable blanket
that covers me in sweetness
Words of life caress the streets
Everything here breathes poetry
At the other side of the riverbank
I see the city lights dancing
And I could dance along with them
all night long
In the knowing that
The sun will rise again
at its own perfect timing
That life’s tides come my way
the way they do
That this city follows
its own unshakeable rhythm
And as long as I follow mine
I will never be out of tune

Ode At Sunset

Lisbon, February 14th, Valentine’s Day

He whose beauty I find in every sunset
He whose eyes I see when I close mine
He whose smile I feel in rays of happiness
He whose light guides my way
through the darkest hour
He whose voice sings me
into sweetest dreams
He whose embrace contains
more than the world
He whose soul I love
Beyond body, time and space
He whose heart stirs up these words
For him is written,
For him is sung,
While the sun glides off the earth,
gratefully this ode

Uma Casa Portuguesa

Lisbon, February 13th

It’s cold outside
So come on in
And warm yourself
In this Portuguese house
Sit here with me
at the fire
Lend your ear to
melodies of melancholy
Guitarristas play
The fadista sings
About a heart that burns,
that longs
A fire inside
that is so strong
It lights up true faces
As by the light
of a heart on fire
Only realness
does not get burned away

Hold Up My Heart

Lisbon, February 13th

The sun meets me
Here on top of the hill
at the castle of
the brave knights
Past and present
dance together
In a fairy tale of
living happily ever after

The town down there
tells about the earthquake
Long time ago
That shook up its sight
destroyed its buildings
Though left its heart untouched
Fiercely the city has risen
from ashes of
fire and water
Passion faces forward
into new beginnings

And here above time
I hear the church bells ringing
See the clouds floating
And I step forward
To hold up my heart with pride

Since here in this town
By the grace of the Tagus
The sounds of fado
The smell of sardines
The taste of victory
I am happy
to have you in my heart

Lisbon By Night

Vibrating dark shines
its beauty
upon Portuguese streets
The wavy tiles
of Rossio square
let me flow
into the magic
of a city
that speaks
of love
The fountains sing
their water
up into the air
A winter night
in Lisbon
is a warm
glowing heart
underneath the stars
Heavenly I find
you in every corner
of this town

Lisboa, Queen Of My Heart

The blue sea smells of sardines
The land is scented with saudade
Waves of memories
roll towards me
I dance my way through Alfama
And will write my own history
Sounds of Fado take me with you
To comforting Portuguese ground
Into the heart of faith and fate
What will be will be
with no doubt

Let my tears merge
with the water of the Tagus
Let my soul flame o meu amor
I will be the queen of myself
On the hill in the castle
Ready to receive the king of my heart

Let me discover the truth of a treasure
I will embark the ship of my dreams
Let me raise my glass to good fortune
Let God be with me when I go overseas

Lisboa, city of light
Always have your arms wide open
To allow me to return back home
Though there can be stormy waters
I will never lose track of your shore
