Swords

Sharp words have torn apart my heart
Dark shadows have fallen upon us
The night came showing us no mercy

Though the swords that cut my heart
Mirror me the beauty
Of a heart that is wounded
As it loves so deeply

Please don’t let the night divide us
At least let us meet again by day

The Recalcitrant Poem

I want to rhyme in schemes
But my poem doesn’t let me to
I want to find the harmony within the A,B,A,B
But my poem wants the A,F,B,G

I want to find perfect words
But my poem likes pure expression,
raw words, flowing like a rough river
directly from the heart
I want a garden with borders
but my poem likes the wild flowers
and the uncut grass

I want to write an
intellectual
metrical
composition in
symmetrical
verses
But my poem does
whatever it wants

And now, at least,
I want to end it all in style
But my poem says:
Just do whatever you like

Alive

My fairy man
Plants grow on your chest
Hope sprouts from your heart
New leaves surround you
Nature breathes through you
You’re alive, so much alive
and you’re strong

Oh fairy man
Truer are your eyes
Greener is your heart
Brighter is your light
Now the sun is at
its highest in the sky
You’re wise, oh so wise
and you’re brave

Dear fairy man
Standing on your own
Showing all your colours
Can you hear
the drumming heartbeat,
leading you back home
You’re pure, oh so pure
and you’re the love

My fairy man
Shaman of the woods
Flourishing in truth
Let the fire guide you
to harvest summer’s fruits

Somewhere

I walk the path
in the sky
A white stripe
shows the road
I bridge the gap
between
me here and you there
to find us both
somewhere
on the horizon
of a new day

You-ful

If distance doesn’t count
and closeness can be found
even without words
Then why does it feel
so useless
now to be you-less?

Is it the yin that needs the yang
The moon that needs
the sun to shine
Like my heart needs
its equivalent
to beat its perfect rhythm?

Is it the black that needs the
white
The poet that needs her reader
The page that longs for words
to find its true fulfilment?

Is it the guitar that needs
its strings
Like a voice that needs
to sing
And Eve needs her Adam
like Isolde needs her Tristan?

Is it my hand that needs your skin
to touch
My body that needs
your soft embrace
Like the puzzle that needs
the fitting pieces?

Is it me that longs to be
you-ful?

The Swan Song

She glides over water
Adorned with white feathers
she floats by the grace of her heart
In the shimmering mirror
of the rippling water surface
she looks for the image
of her other half
She sings her song and longs
for its echo

Then one day
her white equal alights
from the heights of her dreams
She recognizes her counter part
And they court for life,
mate for the heavens
As their curved necks entwine
elegantly in a heart
The mirror and its image are one
And in a duet of
sacred partnership
They perform their love
in A minor

Until the day
the heavens open
A choir of angels appears
and shows them the way
And full of devotion
the couple performs
their earthly final;
the most beautiful swan song

Your Eyes

I search for your eyes
in warm days of
late Spring

In brief encounters
In crowded places
In the quietness
of parks

I long for them
in short,
moonless nights
In dreams
without sleep

In the mirrors of
store windows
I try to catch
their gaze

Since my eyes feel empty
Now I don’t see
their reflection
in yours

Blessings

Heart petals shower upon her
Blessings fall down
Heaven’s gifts wash over her
Angels kiss her cheeks
and carry her sorrows away

She dances in the rain
Sings in the thunderstorm
A rose in her hair
Wild flowers at her feet
Her dress waves happily
around her

She goes with her rose
with style and with grace
Like she goes with her heart
Her eyes always focused
on the brightest star

A Worriless Balloon

Cloud will you rain on me
You’re way too heavy weighted
Your darkness hides my sun
Your depression
makes it hard to breathe

Cloud will you rain on me
Release my heavy heart
I held its waters for too long
A growing ball inside my chest
And now it’s hanging at my feet

Wind will you blow in me
And inflate my hanging heart
Let it go up again
Like a worriless balloon

Wind Of Change

Hear the whisper in the wind
that is blowing from the west
Bringing hopeful messages
of new beginnings

Its strong breath
stirs up the fires once more
Out of ashes rises the Phoenix

Since nothing is set
And all is always changing

The wind of the east
that once blew you far away from me
has changed direction
and will one day bring you back

©RoseGirl2018

Side By Side

You walk slowly
Or do I go too fast
My words move even
far ahead of me
as I run tirelessly
towards my dreams

I turn around
And my love,
you are behind
What are you waiting for?
Do you see
what’s on the horizon
radiating there for us?
Do you see
the golden sun
and the fields of infinity?

Or do you see
the birds along the path
the little stones
that crack
underneath your feet
and is it that
what makes you go
slowly but graciously?

Do I need to slow down
Or do you need to go faster?

Maybe the road I choose
will have some curves
and at the end we will arrive
at the same time?

To then find out
In heart
we have always walked
hand in hand and
side by side

Present

Each word is a teardrop
I shed for you
Rivers of aching liquid
that flow from my eyes
into my pen and clot
on the paper

The page is a blank pool
that has absorbed
a still life of pain

Each teardrop
is a witness of
how you are present
in absence
Of how the love
flows out of my eyes

Reciprocity

In the forest between Cascais and Sintra, Portugal

I breathe out the air
the trees take in for me
I inhale the air
the trees transformed for me

Underneath the ground
a network of roots
connects the trees
The forest breathes
as one with me

Rebirth

The initiation well of Quinta da Regaleira, Sintra

The tower does not reach up into the sky
but descends down into the ground
A spiral staircase leads me
into the underworld of darkness
Inside the womb of mother earth I die
I take off my old self
at the bottom of the dark, moist cave
And then slowly I rise
Rebirth my renewed me
I emerge from the labyrinths of my own depths
Journey towards the daylight
Up into your radiant mystery

Rocks In The River

There are rocks in the river
That block the water from flowing
The river keeps its tales unrevealed
And I am lost for words

I want to swim in your depths
Get drown in the waters of your heart
Float in your ocean
Your current will lead me
back to my words

©RoseGirl2018

Sandcastle

Here on the sand plain
My feet sink deep into the earth
My hands build our castle
Sand slips through my fingers
While the wind blows its own
creatures
And heart clouds float happily
above me in the sky
Believe, all the magic is real
and reality
is just a bad dream

©RoseGirl2018

Destination

A gloomy sea under a dreary sky
Salty tears and bitter thoughts
The horizon is a line to cross,
a misty spot in future
The boat leaves a trail
behind and disturbs the water

Don’t look back
Don’t look forward yet
Just feel how the wind
makes your hair dance
The moist on your skin
Him in your heart
Destination lies within
the now

The Day You Were Born

The day you were born
heaven came to earth
Flowers bloomed,
birds serenaded,
the sun shined
All celebrated
your unique expression of life
Angels blew their horn
and spread the word that
you had arrived
You, free spirit
that came flying from above,
held within the seeds
of so many songs yet to be sung
You were born to be love
and be loved
by me

©RoseGirl2018

Equilibrium

We both keep still
and watch each other
Like two cats
that both have
their own territory
Carefully
holding the space
between us
Thick tensed air
Soundless words
fly back and forth
Tumultuous peace
captured in the status quo
We have our own
universe
In this equilibrium
of silence

©RoseGirl2018

Lonely Road

A lonely road ahead
While the midday sun burns mercilessly
and uncovers shadows to accompany me
My army of angels where are you
Did you dissolve in light?
Help me to see
where I am going
Or is it blind trust
that keeps my vision clear?

©RoseGirl2018

Heart Care

You don’t need to give
your heart away
You can keep it
Hold it in your hands
Caress it, cherish it
Protect it, care for it
As for new born baby chick
Velvety, vulnerable, breakable

And only when you’re ready
Slowly open your hands
And let your heart fly
Gently it will land
into mine

Love Of Many Lifetimes

Our love,
A tree of all times
Planted long time ago
Its base unshakable
Survived the turmoil
of ages in this town
Each grain tells another story
Holds another layer
Though its crown still grows
and its leaves renew
and blossom
This tree
Older than we are
Wiser than wise
Will even survive
us

©RoseGirl2018

The Call Of The Forest

Tall trees reach out with their peaks
majestically into the sky

A magpie couple cuddles
on their bench of branches

The sparrows sing their songs
in a play of call and answer

While wood nymphs appear
Giggling in between bare trees

As Autumn took their coat of leaves
Leaving them heart naked

I walk our footsteps
On a carpet of brown and green
Silent thoughts, open ears

My dear, hear!
how the forest calls for us

©RoseGirl2018

The Moon of March

Chasing clouds
Shadows gather
The dark shoots
its arrows of fear
and haunts hearts
that lack faith

The Moon of March
holds memories
of a cold and distant Winter

Though the night
carries the seed
of the day
Like the moon is lit by the sun
The light can only be seen
because there is darkness

©RoseGirl2018

Moving Hearts

Where are you, my love
Where am I going
On this train
That is rolling
in rhythm with fate

Fleeting shapes
behind the window

The landscape
is moving so fast
Or is it my heart
that moves me to you

Magnets
we are
Pulled
to our destination
Journeying
towards home

Feet Off The Pedals

How the crows float in the sky
And the first crocus blooms
How Spring is on its way
The wind plays with my hair
While my bike takes me on a ride
down the hill

All is
Beyond what my hand can grasp,
my gaze can reach,
what doubts can turn around
Feet off the pedals
Heart off the mind
I exhale
When ties are loose
Hands are up
I don’t need to do anything but
loving you

Shedding Tears

Lisbon, February 18th

When you shed your tears
And let them rain down
I will catch them
Cherish them
These fluid diamonds of your heart
I will make them a river
To flow into the world
It will fertilize the earth
And by the grace of your tears
New flowers will grow

©RoseGirl2018

Tram 28

Lisbon, February 15th

I glide up and down the hills
trough the narrow alleys
on tram 28
This vehicle of romance
that shakes me into nightly daydreams

And suddenly
I am in a movie in black and white
And my heart starts to beat excitedly
Because – who knows –
At the next stop there is a man waiting for me,
holding a red rose
in his hand

The Tale Of The Rising Star

Once there was a tiny little star
That hid itself in the dark sky
And made itself invisible
As it was afraid of its own light

The other stars asked:
Why are you preventing us
from seeing your treasure
How can you truly appreciate
the diamonds we are
If you are withholding
your own full shine?

Your light will help us to shine brighter
Together we’ll connect
the dots in this painting of life
And we’ll hold our place
in divine order
Illuminate the sky
As it was written in the stars

When the tiny little star
heard the words
of its sisters and brothers
And of its purpose to shine
It decided to take heaven’s stage

When the earthlings saw
the rising star above
They applauded
They named it the Pole star
And let it guide their ways
