Becoming Visible

As a child I learned the art
to be invisible
Like a ghost I wandered around
so others could do me no harm
they could not blame me
and I would not bother anyone

But even though I hid
for the world and for myself,
you saw me
Like no one had ever seen me before
I came alive by your gaze
as your eyes made me visible

Owning Your Space

As a little kid there was always
the threat
of the unpredictable rage of her father
He didn’t need a reason to beat her up
Nowhere she was safe
not even under the sheets
in her own bed

As she longed for a safe place
she took all the coins
from her money box
and went on her own to the store
to buy a lock for her door

But her father was like a wild monster
when violent rage came over him
that the lock on the door of her bedroom
could not protect her from
He just thundered through

So then she withdrew more and more
and made her own space very small
a small corner within herself
with walls around it
was all what was left

And also later in life
many people violently invaded her
Until she learned that
in order to keep her space safe and protected
she didn’t need to put a lock,
nor did she need to withdraw

But she needed to make her space bigger
She needed to own it
Instead of fear, she filled up
her space with true love
and let its strong and bright
burning torches protect her

From A Place Of Freedom

I want you to be free,
my beautiful bird
Not tied to anyone,
to any place or situation
But I want you to fly
and to discover yourself
and the skies
to float in higher realms
by the wings of your heart
For if you choose
to land in me and in love
I wish for you to choose it
from a place of freedom

Earthly Moon

May the full moon witness
while she looks down
from her throne
in the sky
and glows with the light

mainly against yourself

and feel the comforting warmth

I Learned

I was taught
not to trust the water
for waves can roll over you
rivers can whirl and overflow

I was taught
not to trust the wind
for a light summer breeze
can easily turn into a tornado
that takes everything
and hits you mercilessly
in your face

I was taught
to not trust myself
for there are others
who have more authority

I was taught
to not trust love
for love is like the wind
and the water
A dangerous force
that should be controlled
Love can be taken from you
anytime
You need to earn it
before you can receive
and maybe you’ll even
never be worthy enough

But then I met you
and I learned that
love can be wild like the wind
It can take you high up
into the sky
It can be the powerful force
behind your wings
It can be continuously flowing
like the water
unconditionally given
and there is always enough

And then I started to trust love
like I’d never trusted anything before
And the more I trusted love
the more I trusted the water,
the wind and myself

My Guru

I was a seeker and looked for something
that could guide me
Something, that would give an answer
to all my existential questions,
why I was here
and that could explain
the mystery of life

I read many self-help books,
articles on spirituality
I listened to inspirational talks
I did meditation courses
and practiced yoga
But nothing that could
quench my thirst
and could satisfy my hunger
Until I met you and found
what I had been looking for
The holy grail,
the philosopher’s stone
is in my and your heart
For my guide, my guru is
true love

An Arch

We are like the two rosebushes
in my garden
Our feet may stand
at a distance from each other,
they may even walk
on different continents
But our branches, our dreams,
our hearts, our arms, our hands
always reach out for each other,
forming together an arch of love

A blossoming flower
we both carry in our chest
that is open to the other
A beam of light radiates from it

and labels
society and people around you
have given to you

you truly are

from all the name calling you do
in your own head,
all the negative self-talk

my perfect counterpart,
let me rename you
in the name of love

Treasures Of Beauty

When we met, you dived into my sea
You found my treasures and
showed them to me
I could not believe they were mine
I let the tides take them as if
they didn’t exist

I dived into your sea
I found your treasures and
showed them to you
You thought they weren’t real
You threw them back
and walked away from the waterside

Though we both could not unseen
what we had seen
Now we knew what was
deep down in the sea
We could not just float
on the water surface
or look the other way

So then I took the leap
I dived into my own sea
to seek my treasures
You had shown me they were there
And indeed, I found them
and recognized them as mine

You too returned to your sea
and dived into it
to find back your treasures
But this time, you could see
they were yours and real

And when we met again
proudly we showed each other
our treasures
I gifted mine to you
You gifted yours to me

Bringing The Summer Back To August

August carries the pain of memories
Two years in a row
a cold winter that came
and made abruptly an end of Summer
Sharp icicles that cleaved my heart
and froze my body
Snow that rained from my eyes
I never knew August could be that cold

I tried to forget
but August still reminds me
Memories that are frozen inside
and stir up fear

My love, help me
to make the pain melt
so it can flow out of me
Let’s together stoke up the fire
of our love
Let’s burn away the past
and heat up the now

Shine Your Love

And the bird stands in her tree
on a high branch
Her sad eyes stare in the distance
Where her heart sees more than
her mind can understand

A wise owl flies by and lands next to her
‘Lady bird, what is the source
of your melancholy?’

‘Oh owl, I wonder, why this journey
is so hard
and I have to go through so much pain
Why did God intend this for me
and do I need
to sing my heart song
in this tall tree
Where the wind easily can grasp me
Where my song is for everyone
to hear
and I am for everyone to see
Why am I not just down there
in the forest,
a bird among the other birds,
hiding behind the bushes
and not knowing what is up here
It is love that gives me the strength
to carry on
But why, owl, can’t it just be easy?’

‘Dear lady bird, the strongest shoulders
carry the most pain and burden
It is because you can
It is the path your soul has chosen
The ones with the most difficult journeys
that go through the deepest dark,
are able to hold and shine
the brightest light
It is part of your task
and that of your beloved
But look, how all the fairies
help you up here
Lady bird, don’t think too much

I walk with you through your
photo album
as we travel back in time
So many you’s at different stages
of your life
The height and the expression
may differ,
Though your beautiful eyes
that connect me to your soul
and tell me your hidden story,
never change

And when I see all those you’s
I feel their struggles, their joy,
their loneliness, their search
and their pain

I give every you a kiss

Island Of Peace

In the middle of the town
where once Charles the Great
had his residence,
I sit in a park
A green, wooded island of peace
while the crowded city life
flows around it

And like this park,
When it is busy outside,
there’s a lot on my mind
and thoughts haunt me
I retreat and reside

our island of peace

It is perceived as one star

I tried to express the love
I feel for you
and drew it on a paper
I made delicate lines
I wrote beautiful words
I used every colour
Until I realized that
the love was not
the drawing itself,
But in fact, the love was
the pure, infinite white
of the paper
that lay underneath
and shined through

I lie down on the bed
Through the bedroom window
A strong evening breeze blows
over me
I close my eyes, I think of you
and then I float
on an endless ocean of love
And by the tides of my breath
The magnet of my moon
I draw you deeper into me
Into the depths of my ocean
Until you flow
in my north and my south,
my west and my east
And together we expand
like the water
Together we dance on my breath
We merge in my longing
And we find an anchor
in the beat of my heart

Popcorn

Let’s take a little distance from ourselves
and detach us from the tale
We cuddle up together on the couch
and watch the movie of our story
How the scenario plays out
and our characters play the roles
We do not need to worry or fear
as we have forwarded it
and know what is to come
So we just smile and kiss
and take some more popcorn

Immeasurable

There are no earthly measurements
to indicate how much I love you
Kilograms would make it too heavy
Meters or miles would make it too small
For Celsius or Fahrenheit the love is too hot
I tried it in units with Newton
Though this love can’t be placed
in a box
And even for Einstein’s mass-energy equivalence
the energy of the love is too high
to be caught
So my darling, just use your heart
to feel and to measure it yourself

The Katydid

A katydid comes inside my
living room and speaks:

‘I’m here to bring a message
to the girl curled up on the couch
with tears on her cheeks
and a pained heart
because of the longing
for her beloved
and the tough journey
they are on

Girl, do you see my lightness
with which I hop around?
This is the lightness that again
you need to find
You need to surrender
even deeper and more
And let go of control
Leap forward in faith
over any obstacle in your mind
Attune to your intuition
Just like me you have the ability
to jump across time and space
and to cross worlds
Leap even more in trust
in your true love’

There’s a turtle on the beach
She lies upside down
with her feet helplessly
up in the air, she seems lost

Oh turtle, what are you doing there?
Did the storm of your thoughts take you

You looked at the horizon
and waited for the tides
to bring your beloved
You were full of hope

But then suddenly, you started to fear
that he wouldn’t come for you

far away across another ocean

into positive ones

The Clumsy Fairy

She was a fairy that looked
for a tale to fly into
She searched everywhere
but couldn’t find a tale that suited
Until she saw one in which
her dream prince walked
She jumped from above
right into his arms
Though the prince was shocked
and started to run
She chased him and screamed:
‘Please stop, my dream man
come to me, I want you’
The poor man was overwhelmed
and said: ‘Who are you?’
She said: ‘I’m the fairy
and you need me in your tale
to have a happy ending
But besides that, I do love you!
And besides, besides that
I’m the one who makes the stories
How come that my lines,
you don’t follow?’
He answered: ‘Because I’m a fairy man
and I have my own magic
Sure, we can together make
a happy ending
But first, I need to know
if you truly are my fairy woman
Show me your magic!’
Thus the fairy started to write,
she wrote more than 1000 love poems
But when she was finished,
she looked around and saw
that her man was on the ground
so much love had completely
made him pass out
So quickly she kissed him back alive
But then because of her nerves,
accidentally, she kissed him into a frog
Though she didn’t care
for she loved him unconditionally
And it was a good opportunity
to kiss him again and again
until she found the right spell
to kiss him back the fairy man
who now was convinced,
after so much magic,
that the clumsy fairy truly was his

My beautiful bird,
flying high above the ocean
near to the sun
The beat of your wings
is strong and determined
as your third eye is focused
on the other shore
where she is

And sometimes, it may feel
you’re not a bird up there in the sky
But you’re the lonesome sailor
down there
that floats lost on an endless sea
of memories between two continents,
wondering how the ocean can be crossed
while he dreams about his dancing girl

But my bird, feel the wind of love
behind your wings
Just take it one beat at a time
Most important is,
you hold the vision
and you’re on your way

How The Two Lovers Of True Love Solve The Problem Of Global Warming

And I say: ‘Oh my cutest cutie,
I almost burn alive
here in the extreme heat
of the Dutch Summer’
You say: ‘Oh yes, my sexy sweetie
I have the same trouble over here
I’m on fire in this hot Californian night’

‘Oh no! Could it be that because
our love is just so hot,
the flame of our passion burns so high,
that that causes the global warming?’
‘You could be right, my sexy sweetie,
it would actually explain a lot.’

‘Oh cutest cutie!
That means we need to cool down!
But how can we do it?
For every time when I think of you or feel you
the fire gets stoked up,
the temperature increases!
I eat ice creams all day,
I take cold showers
And I even went to the local supermarket
to be in their walk-in fridge
But nothing seems to work,
the flame can’t be extinguished!’

‘My sexy sweetie, I know, I know
Last night when I played my guitar
I almost set fire to the audience
because of the passion that flamed
from my strings
Maybe we should discharge
it a bit
in controllable measures
Let’s just continue to write
our songs and poems’

‘Cutest cutie, when you speak
about discharging,
I have a much better idea
Just come fly over to me
and I will show you
how, at least for a moment,
we first bring the climate to a climax
But after that,
I bet we are much cooler’
