In The Doorway

It was never truly safe
behind a locked door
where you kept all inside
Emotions were unpredictable
and unwelcome visitors that stayed

You sat there in your room
in the dark
and sang a lonesome song
Old photographs on the wall
made you long for the past

But then love knocked on your door
You didn’t trust, you were scared
You locked it even more
Though love found a crack
to show you its light
until one day you had the courage
to open

And now you stand in the doorway
You let the past,
you let emotions go out
and let love in
A smile on your face
as you now finally see
the green lights and blue skies
that are outside
