Balloons

When it was not safe
to stay on the ground
Or when things were too painful
I always had my dreams

They were my balloons
I grasped for them
And they let me go up,
high into the sky
Where no one could
hurt me no more

My dreams and me
We had our own universe
Until the day that you joined

And now we can hold
the balloons together
But this time
We don’t need to go up
and fly away no more

We dream
With our heads in the clouds
Our balloons are even bigger
We hold them
But together
we can keep
our feet on the ground
